What makes this checker different

Most "checkers" just ping the port and call anything that answers "alive". That tells you the port is open, not that the proxy actually works. Ours goes further:

• Full handshake — we route a real HTTP request through the proxy and require a valid response. An open port that returns junk is flagged dead.
• Real egress IP — we record what the proxy actually emits. A "US proxy" that routes through another country is immediately obvious.
• Protocol-aware — HTTP, SOCKS4, SOCKS5 each get the correct test. No false positives from mixing protocols.
• Latency, not just alive — a 4,000 ms proxy is useless for scraping. We rank by real round-trip time.

How it works with messy input

You do not need clean ip:port lines. The input formatter accepts:

• Raw ip:port and http://ip:port / socks5://ip:port
• CSV / Excel two-column pastes (ip  port)
• JSON arrays, log lines, JSON objects
• Credentials embedded (user:pass@ip:port) — stripped automatically

It normalizes, de-duplicates, validates port ranges, and caps a single check at 200 lines. Big lists: split into batches.

When you actually need a checker

• Before you pay for any proxy service — verify the sample first
• After a scrape session — identify which proxies dropped so you can drop them from rotation
• When rotating between datacenter and residential — see which set still resolves

Free vs. paid proxies for real work

A checker will tell you what you already suspect: most free proxies are one-use. For anything beyond testing a single idea, paid datacenter proxies from Webshare (from $0.018/IP, 99.9% uptime, sticky sessions, free tier to start) save more in retries and failed sessions than they cost.
